Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

23: Callout – Tuesday 21 July 2020

We were called at 13:00 to assist an injured walker near the Kinder Downfall, who had fallen over and injured her ankle. After speaking to her companion we were able to obtain their location using PhoneFind technology to extract the data from his phone.

Luckily three of our team members, together with an ex-team members and a good friend of the team were near the Downfall and able to reach them in a matter of minutes. By coincidence they had chatted to them earlier on their walk. After assessing the casualty and using a shelter to keep her warm, they awaited the arrival of our fully equipped team members.

With another lengthy stretcher carry ahead the team members headed towards the top of Sandy Heys ready to descend to Kinder Reservoir. With a HM Coastguard helicopter nearby in the Hope Valley, we were able to benefit from their attendance. The casualty and two team members were flown to Sheffield Northern General hospital.

The team stood down at 18:46, although it was 20:30 before our vehicle returned from Sheffield with our team members and specialist rescue kit.
