Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

11: Callout – Saturday 6th May 2023

We were contacted to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) following a 999 call for an unresponsive young man at Kinder Downfall. We met him at Swine’s Back near Edale Cross where his group of friends had moved him to. Due to a significantly reduced level of consciousness and compromised airway we requested assistance from an air ambulance. Helimed 29 had to abort their response due to the weather but later Helimed 54 was able to attend and assist.

We also escorted the EMAS crew up to Edale Cross in our Land Rover and onto the hill to assist. The casualty’s level of consciousness improved and we were able to drive him with the EMAS crew down to their ambulance. We also escorted his friends off the hill and down to our base in Hayfield.
