Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

13: Callout – Sunday 21st May 2023

The team spent the day on exercise at Roman Lakes in Marple Bridge practising a scenario down by the river. Shortly after we left and were driving home we were alerted to an incident on Kinder Scout.

The Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation Duty Controller telephoned with a request to assist a young lady with an ankle injury on the western edge of Kinder Scout.

Once again four hill parties were despatched up Sandy Heys on a warm afternoon, with heavy equipment to assist the young lady and her family. We splintered her ankle and stretchered her back down Sandy Heys to our vehicles at Kinder reservoir.

We hope she makes a swift recovery. The two callouts this weekend show how a simple slip can result in a rescue being required that can take many hours. Thankfully this weekend the sun has been shining!
