Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

71: Callout 7 December 2024

We were called by the PDMRO duty controller to a couple in the Kinder Low area who had been out for a walk, one had fallen after her foot went down a hole and she was unable to continue. Due to limited phone signal we were unable to get a initial phone find location or contact the casualties for further information, they had also had problems calling 999 and had to sent a text to a relative to call us out vai the Police.

As we were mobilising we finally got a phone find location placing them between the Three Knolls and the Western Edge Path, we were also able to speak with the the casualty party and re assure them we were on route.

Four hill parties were deployed to assist, Kinder 1 found the couple and completed initial cas care and treatment, due to the casualties injuries she required stretchering off back to Edale Cross and the welcoming warmth of Mobile 1 for a trip down to a waiting Ambulance, and onward travel to hospital.

This call out shows how difficult not having phone signal can be when you need to contact the Emergency services, when there is limited signal for a call sometimes a text may go through, to send an emergency text to 999 you must pre register. Information can be found here for registering Contact 999 using Relay UK – How to use Relay UK | Relay UK please remember 999 is for emergencies only and a calling 999 is the preferred method.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
