Just before our monthly casualty care training session we were called to assist a walker who was lost on Kinder Scout. He was finishing a long walk when he became disoriented in the middle of the plateau, around Crowden Head. We had a Sarcall phonefind location for him and understood from his initial message to the police that he was well equipped, uninjured and had no medical conditions.
Two Kinder MRT parties were dispatched to find him, complete an evaluation and evacuate him. The rest of the team remained on standby at base and completed their training in the use of Penthrox, a pain killer that we are looking to introduce in the near future.
To gain more shelter, the casualty moved position, but a second PhoneFind location helped us to him. He was fit and well so we were able to walk him off the hill to our waiting team vehicles. We drove him back to his car and returned to base.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
