We were called to assist a gentleman who had been climbing in New Mills Torrs and become crag fast. He was uninjured and in a safe position – he just couldn’t get down (or up).
Early team members at the scene were able to assess the situation. We deployed our rope rescue equipment and began rigging our system outside the ‘On The Bridge’ cafe, ready to lower to the climber if needed.
Our target is always to achieve the best outcome for the casualty, regardless of which service is used in the rescue. So, we asked Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to attend to see if they could use a ladder to access the casualty from the bottom, which would be quicker than us setting up our rope rescue system. They were able to do this and quickly recovered the casualty to safety.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
