Glossop Mountain Rescue Team were called to assist a wild camper on Kinder Northern Edges who had found the conditions too challenging as Storm Chandra blew through. He was able to provide an accurate location and was reported uninjured but cold.
Because this call was mid-week, Glossop MRT were short of numbers and asked us to help. Mountain Rescue England and Wales have a hypothermia protocol where some casualties should be stretchered off the hill, even if they are conscious and appear to be able to walk, depending on other factors in their assessment.
Glossop MRT went straight to the casualty site via Fairbrook whilst Kinder MRT began taking in our stretcher via Monks Road and Mill Hill. Once Glossop MRT arrived at the casualty site and provided some warming and support, their assessment was that the casualty was sufficiently well to walk off the hill. They escorted him off via the Ashop Valley and Kinder MRT stood down.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
