Our second callout of the day came through from two walkers who had become lost on the Kinder plateau. They had arrived in to Edale by train and headed up on to the plateau to carry out a walk over to the downfall. By the time they had reached the notoriously boggy area around Crowden Head, they were cold and wet from struggling through knee deep mud. Unsure of the route forward and not wanting to retrace their steps back through the bog, they called for help.
Initially we struggled to reach them on their phone, but after a few attempts we fortunately managed to get a location from their phone GPS and were able to talk them to get them to remain at that location. We despatched two search parties, who found them in the middle of the plateau. The were cold and wet, but otherwise unharmed. After some hot drinks and warming up in a shelter, we walked them back down to our vehicles at Edale Cross and were able to drive them to the train station, just in time to catch the last train home.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
