A squelchy August day didn’t put off the crowds for the Cracken Edge Fell Race, with an impressive 167 runners gathering for the event in Hayfield on the evening of Wednesday 2 August. The forecast storms weren’t brave enough to venture further north than Birmingham, so participants were safe to take to the hills at 7.30pm.
A mere 43 minutes and 10 seconds later, William Longden from Buxton AC romped to victory. Martha Tibbot from Saddleworth AC was the first woman to power through the finishing funnel in 49 minutes and 55 seconds. The prize list is below and full race results are available at https://www.fellrunner.org.uk/results/a1862940-b894-4a28-a369-49637be7eeb7.
It was standing room only at the George Hotel for the prize giving, where Pennine Fell Runners were awarded the women’s team prize, Buxton AC took the men’s and the Mountain Rescue trophy was once again presented to the mighty Glossop Team.
Thanks to Pete Bland for providing the race numbers, local landowners for being so supportive of the event and to all those who volunteered their time to make the race possible. See you next year!
