Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

24: callout – Wednesday 16th August 2023

We were asked to assist a lady who had broken her ankle whilst out walking with her family. She was at Red Brook on the Western Edge path of Kinder Scout

A fast response party was dispatched to locate the lady, provide initial assessment and treatment. Further parties carried additional equipment to the site. We provided pain relief to the lady and placed her lower leg in a vacuum splint to stabilise the ankle. She was evacuated to Edale Cross by stretcher. She was driven by Landrover down to our base where she was handed over to the East Midlands Ambulance Service for assessment and onward travel to hospital.

The lady’s two boys had an exciting afternoon culminating in an off road Landrover ride down the Edale Cross track to our base, which they enjoyed immensely.
