We were asked to assist a gentleman who was experiencing heart problems and had briefly lost consciousness. His walking companion had phoned for help and were were able to locate them on Jacob’s Ladder using PhoneFind.
We deployed a fast response party equipped with advanced first aid equipment, including a defibrillator, drugs, oxygen and airway management equipment. Initially, no helicopter was available and we were expecting to deal with the casualty ourselves. A second party was deployed to provide stretcher and additional support, with another party on standby at base.
Fortunately, a Helimed helicopter became available and attended. Helimed treated the casualty and air-lifted him to hospital for further treatment. We transported the casualty’s friend to base in Hayfield and then took him back to his car in Edale.
We understand that after treatment both on the hill and in hospital, the casualty’s condition improved significantly. We wish him all the best in his ongoing recovery.
