We were asked to assist a gentleman who was reported as feeling unwell and unable to continue his walk. Our informant, Alex, was walking along the Edge Path near to Red Brook when he noticed an older gentleman who had collapsed. On investigation, the gentleman was conscious but suffering from a pre-existing medical condition. The informant called Mountain Rescue for help.
We deployed our standard procedure: Kinder 1 to locate, assess and treat the casualty, K2 to carry the stretcher to scene, K3 & K4 to provide additional support in any stretcher evacuation. Fortunately, after assessment by our team paramedic and team doctor, the casualty was able to walk off the hill to Edale Cross, with the stretcher only needed for backup. He was driven by Landrover to base.
We are pleased to say that the gentleman was feeling much better by the time he got to our base. After a thorough check up by our paramedic, a cup of tea and some chocolate biscuits, we were able to discharge him and help him get home.
Our thanks to Alex and his friends who called for help and kept our casualty warm with emergency shelter, whilst waiting for our arrival.
