Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

8: CALLOUT – Sunday 28TH JANUARY 2024

We received a request for assistance from two walkers who had become lost in the groughs while attempting the return leg of their walk.  The route from the downfall to the top of Crowden Clough is notoriously difficult and the initial track soon disappears into the middle of the plateau.  It was getting dark and the temperature was starting to drop, so they called for our help.

After a brief phone conversation with them to establish they were safe, we managed to retrieve their location from their phone using PhoneFind technology.  Kinder sections were able to drive to Edale Cross and make their way in to the location on foot.  Both of the walkers responded well to warming and were soon able to be escorted back to our vehicles at Edale Cross for a drive down to our base in Hayfield.
