Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

24: Callout – Sun 14 Apr 2024

The team were in the middle of a training session when a call came through tasking us to a male with a reported dislocated ankle in the Woolpack area of Kinder Scout, the Duty Controller had manage to confirm the location using Phone Find.

Training was quickly cut short, as team members rapidly repacked and replenished vehicles and bags, and incident control organised hill parties and vehicles. Two parties were deployed direct from the training venue via Edale Cross track onto Southern Edge Path to the casualty location. The initial party taking immediate medical supplies closely follow by party two who were tasked with taking the stretcher package.

The remaining team members headed back to our base to collect further equipment and meet up with additional team member who hadn’t been participating in training. Three further parties were deployed to assist with the stretcher evacuation to Edale Cross and manage other members of the casualties family.

Once on scene the first Kinder party, assessed and treated the casualty, splinting the ankle injury, following arrival of the second party the casualty was packaged up in a casualty bag and placed on our stretcher. Further Kinder parties arrived to help wheel the casualty to our vehicles waiting at Edale Cross for transport to our base.

The remaining family members were brought off the hill and then driven back to Edale village to collect their vehicle and then returned to Kinder base to meet the casualty. Following further assessment and a couple of hot drinks the casualty was released to his family for transport to hospital.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
