Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

27: Callout – Thurs 25 Apr 2024

We were asked to assist Glossop MRT with a casualty on Bleaklow, the casualty had been out walking since the early morning and had become lost and ended up in the ‘Grains’ area, away from the main Pennie Way.

The team rendezvous was on the Snake Pass, on arrival Glossop MRT were locating the casualty, once a confirmed grid references was established two Kinder Parties were deployed with our stretcher package, vacuum mattress and casualty bag to assist with the evacuation back to the vehicles.

During the assessments of the casualty he reported significant back pain which had resulted from an earlier slip and aggravated a pre-existing injury, this meant he was unable to self extricated and would need to be stretchered off. Due to the remote location of the casualty site and the injuries helicopter support was requested.

An Coastguard S92 Helicopter was able to respond, once on scene they picked up the casualty and a couple of Glossop Team Members who were then flown to the A57 Snake Pass road head where the road had been closed and an Ambulance was waiting to transfer him to hospital.

This was a multi agency callout with Glossop MRT, Derbyshire Police, North West Ambulance Service and His Majesty Coastguard Helicopters alongside ourselves. Thankyou to all involved.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
