We were asked to assist North West Ambulance Service with an elderly patient in Marple Bridge who had lost control of her mobility scooter and fallen down a steep bank above the river. Fortunately she hadn’t been seriously injured, but the crew were unable to safely extract her from the location. Once she was loaded on to our stretcher, we were able to find a safe route to carry her back up to the path, then on to the ambulance. She was then transferred to hospital to be checked over.
This still left her mobility scooter stuck on a steep slope above the river. Not having access to the scooter when she returned from hospital was likely to impact her ability to get about, so we decided to recover it for her. The team set up a rope rescue system and hauled it back up on to the path. Once we had it back, two of our team members pushed it up Brabyns Brow back to her house so that it would be available once she was out of hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
