We received a call from the duty controller to say that a lady walking on Kinder Scout had come across a sheep with two lambs stuck in a deep crack in the rocks near Crowden Tower. The only way out was over a steep drop and they were unable to get out. They were concerned that the sheep would either fall off the cliff, trying to get out or be stuck there and starve.
We agreed to send a team up there to investigate and see if it was possible to get them out. The rest of the team waited on standby just in case this turned in to a full rope rescue.
Fortunately with a bit of hands on sheep wrangling, the team managed to get the lambs out, shortly followed by the mother who had now decided that being shoved up the rocks was the best way to get back to her babies.
The three of them then trotted back off on to the plateau to eat some grass while our team members headed back to the new Land Rover for a smooth ride back down to base.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
