The team were called to assist a group of well-equipped young walkers. The group had been on a multi-day walking / camping trip and were making their way along the western edge of the Kinder plateau, heading for the downfall. They had been making progress along the edge path in very windy conditions, when a sudden, intense rain squall hit, soaking them through. The combination of strong wind and being wet through meant they were quickly getting dangerously cold. They managed to find some shelter in between large rocks and called for help.
We despatched two hill parties to their location and held a further hill party in reserve, in case any of them became too cold to walk and would need a stretcher. After being warmed up and provided with blizzard jackets, they were walked back to our vehicles and driven back to our base.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
