The team were called following a report that a lone walker was struggling to get down from Kinder Scout without boots. It transpired that she had earlier become stuck with both legs thigh-deep in a bog. Having struggled for some time to extract herself she realised that sacrificing her boots was the only was to get free. She was experienced and well equipped, and made an impressive effort to walk off the hill without assistance, getting as far was Swine’s Back. However, with temperatures dropping, and a long way still to go we persuaded her to wait where she was to be rescued.
Having added some spare shoes to our usual assortment of rescue equipment, we helped her back down to Edale Cross, and then back to her car in Edale.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
