A fell runner had been running across the top of Kinder Scout. His route took him along the edge path. Not long after he passed Kinder Low trig point on his way towards the downfall, he came across an elderly walker who had become too exhausted to carry on. The runner initially attempted to assist the gentleman, to see if he could get him moving. Once it became obvious this was not going to be possible, he called for help. He then stayed with the gentleman and looked after him until we could eventually get there.
Our initial party arrived and assessed the gentleman. It was decided that he wasn’t well enough to walk, so once our stretcher team arrived, the man was carried back to our vehicles at Edale Cross. We were then able to drive him back down and hand him over to the Ambulance service to be taken to hospital for further assessment.
Special thanks go to the runner for staying with the gentleman and ensuring he was safe until we could get there.
