Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

33: Callout – 14 June 2026

Helicopter landing at Sandy Heyes

The team were called to assist a lady who was having a significant medical issue near the top of Sandy Heyes on Kinder Scout.  We dispatched a fast party up Sandy Heyes, but based on the symptoms she was presenting, we also requested the assistance of a Coastguard helicopter.  They responded from their base in Humberside airport.  In addition we also dispatched two further parties to carry a stretcher up to the location, in case the helicopter was called away or decided not to transport the lady.

Kinder 1 arrived at scene and carried out an initial assessment.  They were soon joined by the Coastguard helicopter.  Their paramedic made a further assessment and decided the lady needed to be transported to hospital.  She was assisted in to the helicopter and was soon on her way.  We then escorted the rest of her party down to their vehicle in Hayfield.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
