Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

34: Callout – 4 July

The team were called to assist Glossop MRT (GMRT) with the extrication of a casualty on Bleaklow, GMRT had been called out at 17:30 to locate and treat the casualty, after some initial searching GMRT found the casualty located in the very inaccessible area of Near Black Clough.

Air Ambulance was also on scene to provide higher level care to the injured walker. Due to the inaccessible location a coastguard helicopter was deployed in the hope they would be able to winch the casualty on board. However with the location, darkness falling and the incoming weather this option was ruled out and GMRT requested assistance from ourselves alongside Oldham and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Teams and the North West Ambulance Hazardous Area response Team.

With the additional resources mobilised and ferried onto the hill, the casualty was stretched to a waiting mobile and driven down to the road head where they were handed over the waiting ambulance crew. This was full multi agency operation lasting nearly 7 hours with over 50 personnel working together, we are glad we could play a part.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
