At 2:30am on Sunday morning, the police received a broken call for help from someone saying they were lost on Kinder Scout.  The call cut off before any useful information could be passed other than that they had been near “Kinder falls” and were now lost in poor visibility and bad weather.  The phone number was not connecting, so we were unable to get in touch with them.

We deployed parties up all the main escape routes from the western side of Kinder, in the hope we might catch them if they were attempting to get down.  Nothing was found on the way up, so we continued the search along the tops.  The weather on the top turned out to be very wet and windy, with poor visibility.  Eventually a pair of walkers were located on the edge path, just north of the downfall.  They quickly identified themselves as the missing walkers.  They were warmed up and walked back down to their vehicles.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
