Shortly after our monthly team meeting ended, a call came through from East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) tasking us to a 25YOM at the top of the Sandy Heys path. The casualty had reportedly injured his wrist and was unable to continue.

Fortunately, a large number of team members were still around base, and we were able to quickly deploy hill parties in mobiles to the Filter House, then ascend via the Sandy Heys Path to locate and treat the casualty. The bonus of having a large number of team members around so quickly meant we could rotate in some fresh legs, with some of the team being out for over 6 hours earlier on Friday morning.

Kinder 1 located the casualty and, following assessment found a double break to their wrist, pain relief was administered and the injury was stabilised. Three other hill parties brought up the stretcher package for the casualty’s ride down Sandy Heys to our waiting vehicles and then handover to EMAS for further assessment and treatment. Another early morning finish for the team.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
