The team were called at 17:40 on Saturday to reports of a mountain biker who had taken a fall and was unconscious near the top of Jacob’s Ladder. Given the potential seriousness of injury, assistance was requested from the Coastguard helicopter at the same time that the team were called out.
The first Kinder party arrived at scene around 10 minutes before the helicopter, and our team doctor made an initial assessment. With the mechanism of injury there was a possibility spinal injury, and therefore the casualty was fully immobilised using a vacuum mattress, and carried to the waiting helicopter.
The helicopter transported the casualty to Hayfield where he was transferred to an ambulance for onward transport to hospital.
The team wish the casualty all the best in his recovery.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
