Late on Wednesday night, the team were called to investigate a potential request for assistance. A local resident had spotted a flashing light on the top of Kinder Scout, which looked like a person in distress signalling for help. It had been stationary for over an hour, and the police were concerned that it could be a walker in difficulty.
We dispatched a hill party to search the area around where the light had been seen. After clearing the paths from Edale Cross to Red Brook and then back down the Three Knolls path to Moorgate, nothing was found and the team stood down.
This was a late night for the team, but a well intentioned request to ensure there wasn’t anyone in difficulty.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers, who give their time free of charge, and it is funded entirely by public donations.
