We were called to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with a walker who had slipped and tumbled in to a river, injuring his head and chest. As we arrived on scene, the casualty had managed to extract himself from the river, but was now finding it painful to breathe. He was quickly treated by the ambulance crew, and given pain relief to deal with possible fractured ribs. We packaged the casualty in a vacuum mattress and then carried him on a stretcher over some difficult obstacles to finally get him back to the ambulance and onward to hospital.
The team wishes him a speedy recovery.
