In the first of three long callouts on the day, the team were called at 4am to assist a pair of walkers who were lost on the top of the Kinder Plateau. The had set off from Edale with the intention of heading from Grindsbrook to the Downfall across the plateau. They were unable to find the correct route and now lost in the dark, they found themselves unable to find their way down. We were fortunately able to obtain a location from one of their phones just before it ran out of battery. At this point we lost contact with them. We despatched two parties to the location of their phone, however when we arrived, the missing walkers were not at the location. By now it was daylight and after a quick search we were confident they were no longer in the area.
We cleared the obvious escape routes, until we finally received a text message advising us that the walkers were safely down. They had been found by a passing walker who had heard their shouts for help. They were only able to let us know once they had been able to recharge one of their phones.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
