The Team received a call from the duty controller to ask for our assistance with a fallen walker near Pym Chair on the southern edges of Kinder Scout. He had been walking with his family when he had fallen from the rocks around Pym Chair and banged his head in the fall. We were fortunately able to contact the rest of his family to establish an exact location. They advised that he had temporarily lost consciousness but had now come round and was talking again.
We quickly despatched a fast party to investigate including one of our team doctors. We then followed this up with three more parties to take in the stretcher.
The casualty was assessed and found to have a number of injuries from the fall. Importantly he was now conscious and talking correctly, but couldn’t walk back due to the other injuries. He was carried by stretcher to our vehicles at Edale Cross, then taken down to base. From there he was transferred to a land ambulance and taken on to hospital. Meanwhile we drove the rest of his family back to Edale to collect their vehicle so they could meet him at the hospital.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
