We were asked by Greater Manchester Police to assist in a search for a vulnerable 70 year old gentleman who had not returned from his afternoon walk in Marple the previous day. Information from sightings, CCTV and phone masts had suggested an area south of Rose Hill station, in the direction of the Middlewood way.
Overnight, police had searched around the Middlewood way and they repeated this search at first light. KMRT were tasked with searching the footpaths and adjacent woodland edges in the area. As well as team members on foot we also used a Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England do to re-search key areas. At the same time, the police were searching other possible areas on foot, with a search dog and with a drone and helicopter. Sadly, we were unable to find the gentleman by the end of the day, leaving the police to continue working overnight.
Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
