Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

68: Callout 22 November 2024

We were called at 01:15 in the morning to assist an ambulance crew with a patient in Mellor.  It had been snowing all day and the crew were unable to drive the ambulance up the steep snow covered road to the patient’s home.  We were able to assist the crew in carrying the lady down stairs, then out of the house.  Once outside, we were able to wheel her down the snowy road on our Mountain Rescue stretcher to the waiting ambulance at the bottom of the hill.  From there it was a careful drive in the ambulance, as even the main roads were still covered in snow.  Most team members were able to catch a couple of hours sleep before getting up for work later in the morning.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
