Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) has been in existence since 1971, and is one of seven mountain rescue teams that operate within the Peak District National Park, as part of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO).

Our 50 members operate on an purely voluntary basis and are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist members of the public on the hill or in urban search and rescue situations.

We are almost exclusively funded by public donations, and all proceeds from fund raising go towards equipment and resources used on our call outs.

44: Callout – Sat 27 July 2024

We were asked to help a lady who had injured her ankle on Kinder Plateau. We had a precise location near to Jacob’s Ladder / Edale Cross, on the path, but no phone number to allow us to confirm this.

Normally, the fine weather, level of injury and the location near to the Landrover track would not justify a helicopter rescue. However, Kinder MRT and Buxton MRT were live training with the Coastguard helicopter at Buxton MRT base, a couple of minutes flying time from the casualty. We asked if they would help, but unfortunately they were tasked to a much more serious incident in the Lake District.

Kinder MRT then deployed as normal: Landrover to Edale Cross and walk into the casualty location. Unfortunately, when we arrived, there was no-one there. We then started a search, with four Kinder hill parties searching the immediate area around the given location and Buxton MRT deploying to cover exit routes down towards Edale.

Buxton MRT located the lady limping off at Upper Booth. They were able to take her to her car at Edale, to be driven by her companions for assessment at hospital.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team is staffed by volunteers who give their time free of charge and is funded entirely by public donations.
